Alden's parents were both loving and supportive, even though they showed it in different ways. Him and his sister, Valerie, were fraternal twins - though their parents did an amazing job of leaving neither out of their lives.
His mother Liviana is an Civil Engineer, whom also does architectural work for the city. While she is very often busy and out of the house, she makes the time to talk to her kids - even if it via cell phone. She makes it a point to at least makes sure to talk to them a half an hour each day, sometimes even on conference calls with the whole family.
The father James is a large burly man, whom shaves his head bald out of choice. He likes sports. He likes to be active. So that his why he pursued a career in becoming a Yoga teacher. His classes are quite popular. He also coaches the soccer team.
He, along with his sister Valerie where cared for and raised to pursue their dreams. While Valerie had very clear and defined goals in her life, Alden found himself simply working to complete High school - unsure of what he wanted out of life. An athletic kid, he practiced a few different martial arts in his younger years, finding his niche when finding with a weapon. He studied a few varies arts of swordsmanship, but never mastered any in particular.
During his sophomore year of high school, he joined the track team, looking for a sport that would make good use of his slender and athletic build. During tryouts, he met Jenna, a recent transfer to Epitome High. After becoming good friends, they started dating at the end of the year during Districts.
Alden was given for his 17th birthday a brand new convertible with a Queen Industries logo on the steering wheel along with a card saying "with all my love, Jenna".
Origin of his powers:
One day, while doing his typical wandering and getting into too much trouble, Alden found himself standing on a rather high wall, simply balancing as he walked across it. Disaster struck, and he found himself off-balance due to a sudden gust of wind. The world around him seemed to slow down as he plummeted off the three story high wall, head first towards the ground. His eyes shut, and he knew his doom was imminent as his arms flailed to upright himself in mid air - a futile endeavorer. Suddenly - as if a hook has gripped him in his naval, he felt himself yanked what he could only describe as "sideways to sideways", and found himself standing on the ground, ten feet from where he would have landed.
He spent many days trying to reproduce the sensation, and over time, managed to be able to pull himself from one end of his room to the other. As he learned his new powers, he told himself to keep them a secret - not showing them if he didn't have to. However, he found himself in an odd situation during a session at his martial arts dojo, where he reflexively teleported himself out of the way of a sword strike by his instructor. The man regarded him carefully, and asked Alden to step into his office after practice.
Asking Alden where he learned to do that, he explained that he had no idea, it simply happened. Believing the incident to simply have been dismissed, Alden went on about his daily life… The following week, however, he was approached by his instructor and two more men, who wanted to 'train' him for a special task…
"Epitome City has found itself in an odd situation. Supernatural creatures, and those with strange powers, seem to gravitate towards our city. Many of them are human, but… some are not. There are those that fear the non-humans will destroy the humans before much longer, and wish to preserve our way of life. Not all of them are bad, but we need to be ready to defend ourselves against those that are…"
After some time of training, they presented him with an Amulet. "For protection", they had said, and he had never taken it off since. The powers of the magical amulet, he found, helped him to fight on equal grounds with non-humans, and … over time …. it's powers slowly were absorbed by his body.
