Derek Myers was born to a fairly well-to-do family in Midtown. His parents learned, when he was very young, that Derek was very bright. And so they got him into private education, to expand on, and take advantage of that. However, Derek, despite his intellect, found all of this education boring. So while he got good grades, and made his parents "proud," Derek was more interested in taking things apart, to see how they really worked.
By some miracle, or just another testament to his intellect, he was able to put the devices back together. Soon, Derek's experimentation with mechanical objects led to him trying to put together new objects. By the time Derek finished High School, he was able to put together a fusion reactor with nearly limitless energy. He kept how far he'd come secret from his parents, and teachers, and continued through college at a normal pace. He wanted to create a piece of technology together that would out do all of the local companies. And then make enough money from this that would allow him to buy them all out.
But Derek's intentions and goals changed after his second year at ECU. At the time, he was dating a girl named Marcia Slater. Marcia's family owned a local bank, that Derek had the convenient timing to be at when it was robbed. Thinking fast, Derek ducked for cover just like everyone else. And while the robbers threatened everyone and collected money, Derek worked on putting together a device from his cell phone, and MP 3 player. With it, he was able to create a device that made an ear-shattering screech. This incapacitated the robbers, but also Derek, and everyone else in the bank long enough for police to arrive on the scene and stop the robbery. Derek was named a Hero for how he was able to incapacitate the robbers without permanently injuring anyone.
For the next month or so, Marcia and Derek remained a couple. But Derek enjoyed the rush he got from defying the robbers, and creating something to stop them. And, picking up cues from local "superheroes," Derek decided to try to become a superhero himself. Within the next half a year, Derek managed to create a device that could render himself invisible, or conceal a small area. He developed a belt that created a force field soon after that. Finally, he created a hand-held blaster, and a jetpack. After attaching all of these to an improved version of the power generator her created years before, Derek was ready to fight crime (or commit acts of voyeurism) with his new outfit. He attached all the parts to a black jumpsuit, put together a black mask, and the Cyber Stalker was born.
Unfortunately, during all of this time, Derek neglected Marcia. And it did not take long before the two were broken up. Instead of getting upset, Derek simply bragged that she'd want to be with him again. Unfortunately, their relationship never recovered. And when Marcia began dating some rich boy from the University, Derek decided it was time for him to move on too. After all, there's an entire city of girls he could impress with his gear, and tech savvy… right?
After he graduated from college, Derek found a job for Aero Inc. in their electronics department. He started working in their tech support office. It's a modest paying job. But it's neither time-demanding, nor overly stressful, allowing Derek to spend more time obsessing over building devices, and fighting crime for the adrenaline rush.
