Past: Born and raised in Eastern-London, Ward found his way in to the art of magic quite interestingly: community service. Most of the fifteen years he had lived, he had been a delinquent. Delivering food for the elderly for few months was humiliating enough to feed the youngter's defiance against authorities even more. The community service wouldn't have had much of an effect on him, had it not been for one peculier old man. Gabriel was his name, an old man living by himself in a large run-down house. Like many other of the senior citizens he delivered food to, he liked to talk to Ward, but unlike the others, he wasn't just mindlessly blabbering. He generally wanted to have a conversation with Ward, to hear his opinions on things and about his life. They got along suprisingly well, well enough that Gabriel hired Ward to do some fixings and be an overall handyman around his house.

After being Gabriel's janitor for a little over six months, Gabriel made a new offer to Ward. Since Ward wasn't doing too well at school, or even attending, Gabriel offered to tutor him. Normally this would have been a huge turnoff for Ward, but there was something so persuasive in Gabriel that he took the offer.

At first the lessons were very basic, math, english, biology etc, the stuff that he hadn't bothered to learn at school. Soon the teachings took a different turn however, or at least different when compared to normal school, which Ward did not have that much experience with. Alchemy, crafting runes and glyphs, learning latin… Then, one day it all came clear. Ward wrote down a circle filled with runes and ancient textures, which Gabriel then touched, and with a single word, set it on fire. Gabriel was a mage, and he was teaching Ward how to become one too.

After the initial freak-out, Ward focused on his studies even harder. After three years, on the day when he turned 19, he learned how to cast his first spell. Shortly after that he moved on his own, in a small apartmen building close to Gabriel's house. He also came to meet other students of Gabriel, some young like him, some older, already 'graduated' mages, and several other mages as well. Different rituals and experiments filled his days, and he learned more everyday.

Not too long ago, Gabriel called several of his apprentices to him, including Ward. He told them that he was in reality well over 300 years old, having accuired a repice for an elixir that lenghtens your lifespan. However, it's effects were starting to weaken on him and he needed a stronger elixir. Too old to travel himself, he sent his apprentices all over the world to find new, stronger ingredients. With a hefty stipend, they left. Couple went to Central Europe, some to Asia and few to Africa. Ward headed to North America. After few months of wandering, he settled to Epitome City. He couldn't put his finger on it, but something told him that this city was very promising indeed.

TLDR: Ward is a snarky Hermetic mage with a sweet hat and a chip on his shoulder.
