For thirty years the minions of the Christ-God had been breaching Heaven, slowly intruding in ever greater numbers under the gods of old could no longer hold back their endless tide. Whilst lacking the overwhelming power of this new deity, those gods could still see well enough that His power stemmed from the devotion of countless billions of humans, and against such power they could not hope to prevail. Yet those gods did what they could, even casting their angels from heaven to blend their species with those of their own humans, creating half-breeds in greater numbers and reinforcing the armies of their gods. Thus did Zachariel come into being, born from a human womb with the seed of an angel.
For three years of his life did Zachariel know only warfare, taking up arms against fellow angels, angels which were different and strage - alien. As a servant of the most pacifistic of the gods, Zachariel was poorly suited to warfare, yet was capable of wielding healing powers from a young age with relative ease, and so took the role of battlefield medic. Perforce, born of need, the young half-angel developed rapidly over time, learning many ways of bending the golden light of his master to his will, and eventually learning to speak the very words of creation.
This war was not a war of attrition, however, and the minions of the Christ-god overpowered their opponents with weight of numbers and terrible power. Eventually the palace of his own lord was topped from its heavenly peak, and Zachariel was gathered up with his remaining bretheren. The willing few converted to this foreign being whilst the majority of the angels were cast from their celestial home across time and space, being deposited in alien lands and strange times with nothing but their own bodies to get by.
Despite being bred for war, Zachariel's disposition was sunny, a being filled with love and compassion for all things, a being of innocence. Having been upon the Earth for but a short time, Zachariel's innocence has proven a difficult burden, yet coupled with his appearance and honesty has allowed the boy time to ground himself in a world so very different from that which he is used to. Already the nature of the place has begun to take its toll, and time will surely test him further.
